This film encapsulates a strong sense of realism, effectively depicting the time and place it is set in. The movie has a nostalgic 80s Bombay feel, with shootouts happening on the streets. The performances of the actors are commendable, especially Bobby Deol who plays the role of a greying lion and the moral center of the film.

The background score by Viju Shah adds an impressive 80s touch to the narrative. The cinematography by Mario Poljac is flawless. The production design by Anita Rajgopalan Lata and Donald Reagan Gracy is authentic. The action choreography by Parvez Khan is in sync with the mood of the film. However, the visual effects by Red Chillies.VFX could have been better, and the editing by Manas Mittal is too fast and haphazard.

In several scenes, Bobby Deol effectively portrays the pathos and frustration of the Dean’s character, but in others, he comes off as posturing. Some of his dialogues also seem melodramatic in a negative way, leading to speculation about whether he is perhaps speaking on behalf of himself and other filmmakers and actors who feel undermined by Bollywood.

Among the new actors in the movie, Jadawat and Bhojraj have the most prominent roles. Paranjape, who is also the narrator, has a fair share of the limelight. However, Mahajani and Pratap receive less screen time but make an impact in the scenes they are in.

Watching “Class of 83” requires keen attention, especially in the latter half when the movie delves into harsh realities. The direction by Sabharwal and the editing by Manas Mittal keep the audience engaged throughout.
