Bobby Deol’s character is called Dharamputra and his presence invokes the song “Soldier, soldier meethi baatein bolkar” six centuries before it was composed. And Nawazuddin Siddiqui, in a special appearance, plays ghostbuster Ramsay Baba, who sways to a remix of Bhoot Raja Bahar Aaja (first heard in Dharmendra’s 1977 film Chacha Bhatija).

But largely, it is Akshay Kumar who has the most fleshed out role and shoulders most of the film. And he definitely shines in most of them getting the comic timing right.

It’s funny in parts but can’t hold attention for fifteen minutes straight at any juncture. There lies the problem. Kumar’s excellent comic timing isn’t enough to cover up other characters’ lack of substance.
Despite all this, two brilliantly placed things in script cracked me up. The first is three pigeons named Neil, Nitin and Mukesh, and the second is this dialogue: “Agar main badshah hoon toh tu kya Honey Singh hai (If I am Badshah then who are you? Honey Singh?).”

Speaking of the performances of the film, Akshay Kumar was in his element, same goes for Riteish Deshmukh, but we were let down by dialogues like “Iss ne gender ka tender nhi bhara”. Meanwhile, the leading ladies of the film, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda were not given enough space to deliver much, but they do justice to the little they had, especially Pooja, who had the best punches in the film.” As long as Bobby Deol is concerned, besides a few action sequences, one actually forgets that he is even in the film.

Sajid Khan was directing Housefull 4 initially but had to be removed after #MeToo allegations surfaced against him. Farhad Samji took the baton post that, took the film to completion. We’re going with 1 star out of 5, out of respect for Farhad Samji who had the most difficult task of all.
Good news is that we’ve survived. You have the option to not test that.

Farhad Samji directs and has also written dialogue for this story by Sajid Nadiadwala. So expect lines like, “Aaj mera fast hai is liye mein thoda slow hoon” (I am fasting today which is why I am a little slow) and, as hotel manager Winston Churchgate (Johny Lever), baits Rana Daggubati’s caveman, he says, “Gama, khul gaya tera pyjama” (Gama, your pjyama is undone).
