The Indira Awaas Yojna (IAY) is a government of India initiative. The Government of India offers houses to every citizen who does not have a pucca house and is below the poverty line through this scheme. The scheme applies to all the states of India except Jammu & Kashmir and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The scheme is funded through a central-state funding partnership. The central government allocates funds to the states to implement the scheme. The fund allocation was ₹ 500 crores per year until 2006-07, which was increased to ₹ 800 crores per year from 2007-08 onwards.
